Product Details

PUR Edge Banding Hot Melt Adhesive, fully known as moisture-curing reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive, primarily consists of end-isocyanate polyurethane prepolymers. When the isocyanate groups encounter moisture in the air, they undergo an irreversible cross-linking reaction, forming a robust adhesive layer—a defining characteristic of PUR adhesives.

PUR adhesives contain polar and chemically reactive urethane or isocyanate groups in their molecular structure. They exhibit excellent bonding strength with materials containing active hydrogen, such as porous substrates like wood, leather, textiles, paper, and ceramics, as well as smooth-surfaced materials like plastics, metals, glass, and rubber.

Under conditions that inhibit chemical reactions, PUR hot melt adhesives are heated to melt into a fluid for coating application. When two substrates are pressed together and cooled, the adhesive layer solidifies to provide bonding. Subsequently, it reacts with moisture present in the air and on the substrate surfaces, undergoing chain extension to form high-molecular-weight polymers with high cohesive strength. This significantly enhances bonding strength, heat resistance, and low-temperature performance.

Advantages of PUR Hot-Melt Adhesives

1. PUR hot-melt adhesives are solvent-free adhesives. Unlike solvent-based adhesives, they require no drying process and cause no environmental pollution or toxicity issues. Odorless, PUR hot-melt adhesives have been widely used in Europe for many years as an eco-friendly product.

2. PUR hot melt adhesive offers simple operation. It bonds two materials in a short time without requiring drying, improving work efficiency and saving time.

3. PUR hot melt adhesive exhibits excellent resistance to heat, cold, water vapor, chemicals, and solvents. Due to its irreversible nature once reacted (i.e., it does not remelt when reheated), circuit boards encapsulated with PUR adhesive maintain stability between -40°C and 150°C. This ensures more consistent product quality, making it ideal for processing export goods.

4. PUR hot melt adhesive is packaged in sealed aluminum foil. Dispensing requires specialized sealing equipment to ensure optimal coating quality. Hot melt applicators melt PUR adhesive by heating it in an oxygen-free environment. In the custom furniture industry, PUR adhesives are primarily used for edge banding decorative panels and flat laminating applications on surfaces like acrylic, PET, and PVC. For edge banding, PUR adhesive delivers superior sealing quality and product performance compared to EVA adhesives. In flat laminating, PUR adhesive’s excellent bonding with most substrates, ease of roller application, and suitability for continuous production processes make it increasingly popular in decorative panel manufacturing.
